Before you hit the trails, we advise taking a look at our helpful list of safety gear you’ll want for your next ATV trip. If you’re in the market to buy a new ATV or you’re looking to purchase some exciting new accessories, feel free to stop by our locations in Richmond and Sandusky, Michigan, anytime!

Helmet

While it varies from state to state, in the majority of the U.S. ATV riders are required by law to wear a helmet. Even if your state does not require a helmet, we encourage you to wear one at all times for your safety! When shopping for a helmet you’ll need to look for one that is well-fitted without being too tight. You’ll also want to take a quick look out of the visor to be sure it isn’t too dark and doesn’t obstruct your vision. Finally, we advise purchasing a D.O.T. (Department of Transportation) approved helmet. This is an added guarantee that your helmet will protect you in case of an accident, and is actually required in quite a few states.

Shoes

If you’ve never driven an ATV before, you may not realize how important your footwear is. Open-toed shoes are a huge safety hazard, as they leave your feet exposed to various bits of dangerous debris and flying objects kicked up by your ATV. You’ll also want to do your best to avoid shoes with laces, as they’ll often come untied and may even get pulled into your ATV’s moving parts. To avoid all of these issues, the best shoe you can buy for your next off-roading trip is a durable riding boot!

Clothing

Most of the time, a long-sleeved T-shirt and protective denim jeans are perfectly fine for an off-roading trip. However, if you plan on hitting your local race track, or even some expert-level trails, you may want to invest in some of the padded clothing designed for ATV drivers. It’s not uncommon to fall from your vehicle on difficult terrain, and padded gear can save you from a lot of aches and pains!

We hope this list of safety gear has been helpful in preparing you for your next ATV ride. If you’re located nearby in Detroit, Michigan we hope you’ll visit us here at Ball Equipment for all of your off-roading needs!
